Davis Thinking Seriously About Blowing Out Cable in Oakland

Cable
There’s been plenty of talk since the season ended 6 days ago about the future of Raiders head coach Tom Cable. The Raiders were a five-win team, and they beat a couple playoff teams at home in the Bengals and Eagles. Even with that, there’s no doubt there’s talk about Cable being let go by Al Davis, and today Pro Football Weekly says that it’s a given that Davis is thinking about making a change:

We’re awaiting word from Al Davis as to whether the Raiders will be searching for their sixth head coach since 2002, but it’s clear the team’s managing partner is seriously considering making yet another change. After pulling off surprise wins over the Bengals, Steelers and Broncos in the second half of the season, it appeared Tom Cable was making a strong case to be back as the Raiders’ head coach in 2010. There is talk, however, that Davis is leaning toward firing Cable, who replaced Lane Kiffin four weeks into the ’08 season.

Observers say the team’s players are genuine in their support of Cable and would like to see him return, if for no other reason than to maintain continuity. Oakland hasn’t had the same head coach for more than two seasons since Jon Gruden left after holding the post from 1998-2001. Cable seriously hurt his chances of returning when he indicated JaMarcus Russell had prevented the Raiders from making the playoffs.

Another BS story! Yes, it could happen, but anyone who knows Al Davis & the Raider organization, knows they don’t talk to the media for good reason. There’s a bunch of teams that haven’t made it to the Super Bowl and rarely make the playoffs and the Raiders aren’t one of them. The Raiders have been in the playoffs & Super Bowls in every decade since the 60’s. How many teams can say that. The Raiders beat all the NFL teams for so long, that when there down all the Raider haters write BS stories & comments without any facts to back them up! ONCE A RAIDER,ALWAYS A RAIDER!

I like what Gary said,it does seem that Raider hater get down on the Raider more than any other team when there not winning. How many years was New England in the dog house.I like Cable, and like John Madden he only won 4-5 game his first year of coaching the Raiders. Cable right about Russell to me he doesn’t have the mentality to be a Q-b in the NFL physical talent yes he still a boy maybe in 5 years. With a our backup Q-B we may have made the playoff, I’m pretty sure we would have beeten the Ravens had Fryer never goy hurt. Cable love this team so stop trying to get him fired all you so called sport writers. Raider fan for 50 years here JOE

Agreed! There is NO fact in this whole story, what is the point of reporting it. Waste of time reading this. All of the MEDIOTS trying to report stories that have no facts behind them…shame

listen, the fact of the matter is that Davis does not want to see his million dollar man go up in smoke. unfortunatley, that means Cable needs to go in Davis eyes simpley because Cable wants nothing to do with the big oaf. And in everyone elses eyes, except Davis, this is correct, Russell is a bust. The situation is a sad one for Raider fans. We see what we could be with a quarterback that played with passion and instinct. And with Gradakowski probably starting next year if cable would stay, would give us fans a season to look forward to. But big Al thinks otherwise. He honestly believes that Russell can become something. with that being said, it will be another year of 4-11 and raider nation being mocked by everyone. and thats t tough know..

Another bs story without any facts. Speculation anyone can speculate. I speculate Payton Manning will ger released.

  6. Raider Ray says:

Wow what a waste of space. Does the word DUH mean anything to you? Every team in the league would be “thinking” of firing their head coach after two 5-11 seasons. So your news is that there is NO NEWS!! Congratulations!!

Im tired of all the head coach changes. We can’t get Gruden he hates working for Al. Some unproven college coach like kiffen is not prepared to get us to a .500 season. No good coach is going to put up with Al. Recently i was in Lousiana and everyone i spoke to is laughing at Oakland for paying Jamarcus over 32 mil. guaranteed money for having only 1 good year at LSU. Forget his arm strength what kind of person is he? Is he a quick learner? Try an I.Q. test. Keep the coaching staff as is and cut Jamarcus. I don’t want another year of pain.

  8. Matt says:

Yea, seems every sports writer is writing the same thing. No one knows for sure, we might not even know after Cable and Al have their meeting. I can see the headlines if no decision is made that day. “Al Davis is still thinking about replacing Cable.” If Al was smart he would give Russel two choices, a pay cut, or his walking papers. I think the Raiders should keep Russel at a lower pay, let him show he is comitted, then if he isn’t cut him. Win, win for the Raiders, either he plays better or they cut him and save money. Keep Garcia as the starter, and the Raiders would have been playing this weekend. Maybe coming from Al Davis Russel will understand it was him mostly, though some of the rookies didn’t help much. Raiders Fan From Birth to Death and Beyond 🙂

WELL..HERE IS HOW ITS GOING TO GO….AL DAVIS WILL WAIT UNTIL ALL THE GOOD COACHING PROSPECTS GO ELSWERE..THEN HE WILL INTERVIEW A FEW NO NAMES AND HAS BEENS….THEN HE WILL HIRE JIM FASSEL OR KEVEN GILBRIDE BOTH ARE LOSERS WHO WILL CHANGE AL’S PAMPERS AND PLAY THE TUB OF CRAP RUSSELL NO MATTER WHAT HAPPENS ON THE FIELD. ITS OUR PATTERN EACH SEASON END….HATE TO SAY IT BUT UNTIL AL IS “GONE” WE WILL CONTINUE TO SUFFER THIS LOSING STREEK. AL DAVIS HAS BECOME THE NEW HOWARD HUGES OF THE NFL…A GERMAFOBE WHO IS AFRAID TO BREATH UNFILTERED OR UNFILTERED WATER……WHAT A SAD ENDING TO A RICH HISTORY…..OH AND WE HAVE NOTHING TO SAY ABOUT IT….NO GM…NO GOOD COACH…NO CHANCE FOR THE TEAM I LOVE……CRAP!

  10. Phillip says:

Davis has to GO!!!!!. Who gives a flying crap about decades, hell if you have to rely on that crap to point to success you are SAD!!

  11. rodeosnake12 says:

i hate to say it JOE, but Madden went 12-1 and a tie his first year, not 4 or 5 wins. in his worst years he won only 8 games, and those wear 12 game seasons, a little better than cable.

    Another crap-no-story here. MOVE ALONG!
