In a sort of replay of the Rose Bowl from 2006, Vince Young once again outdueled Matt Leinart, and again did it in dramatic fashion as the Titans beat the Arizona Cardinals 20-17. It’s the first time that a team that started 0-6 has won five straight, but that’s exactly what the Titans have done since starting the season left for dead.
Young, who also seemed left for dead after what Kerry Collins did a season ago, is a shoe-in for “comeback player of the year” after his past few outings. Sunday was by far his best, as he threw for a career-high 387 yards, and hit rookie WR Kenny Britt on the last play of the game from 10 yards out to complete the win.
Chris Johnson had another great game on the ground for the Titans, as he ran for an 85-yard score and wrapped up the win with 154 yards. It’s his sixth straight game of rushing over 125 yards. Britt caught 7 passes for 128 yards, including the final one that sealed the deal. The final drive saw the Titans go 99 yards, as Young hit big conversion after conversion.
Leinart went 21-of-31 for 220 yards, as he came in a did a solid job for the injured Kurt Warner, who sat out the game with neck soreness related to a concussion he got last week in St.Louis. Tim Hightower ran for 55 yards and a score, and Benis Wells had just 20 yards.
The Titans will need to pull off an upset next week if they want to go to 6-6, as they play at Indy against the undefeated Colts.
