It was a tough day yesterday in KC for the Steelers, as despite putting up a ton of offense, the team never found its stride and it showed in the eventual 27-24 OT loss. As of about 4:30pm yesterday, it appeared that the season was all but about over. The Bengals were playing the weak Raiders in Oakland, and Ben Roethlisberger was loopy after a knee to the head.
Things did appear to improve a bit by 7:30pm, as the Raiders stunned the overrated Bengals 20-17, and the concussion to Big Ben appears to be one that isn’t going to be long-term. Now at 6-4 though, are the champs of 2008 down and out for good?
It’s the second time this year they have lost two games in a row. The last time it happened they rebounded nicely to beat the Chargers, Lions, Browns, Vikings and Broncos before losing again. If they are going to go on another win streak to give them a real chance to defend their 08 Super Bowl title, they are going to have to play a tougher schedule down the stretch.
It starts with the Ravens on the road Sunday. Baltimore is not the big bad Ravens of a year ago, but if there’s a game they will get up for, it’s this one. Then it’s the Raiders at home and then Cleveland on the road. Two games that if the team doesn’t win with realitve ease, they shouldn’t be in the playoffs.
The last three games are vs the Packers, vs the Ravens, and at Miami. Those three teams are a combined 16-14, and with two of them at home, the club should be favored in all three if they enter week 14 with a 9-4 record as they should.
So is it time to jump off the bandwagon? Good question. Yesterday was the low point of the season, but of course 8 wins to end the year what took place in KC will simply be considered a speed bump.
