Bengals Now 4-1; Late Score Seals 17-14 Win in Baltimore

The Bengals have found ways to win the last two weeks, and Sunday in a tough place to play, Baltimore, they did it again, as the team found a way against the Ravens 17-14 to move to 4-1, best in the AFC North. The Bengals won the game with :22 seconds left when Carson Palmer went 22 yards to Andre Caldwell for the game-winner. Two weeks ago vs the Steelers at home, Caldwell also caught the winning TD with :14 seconds left.

All five of Cincinnati’s games this season have been decided by seven points for fewer. If it were not for a fluke loss against the Broncos in week one, the team would be undefeated, but still, 4-1 is probably better than a lot of people thought they would be a month and two weeks into the 09 season.

The Bengals last drive did have its share of help, as an illegal contact penalty against the Ravens Chris Carr and an unnecessary roughness call against Ray Lewis preceded the topper, a pass interference penalty against Frank Walker on a third-and-16 from the Baltimore 30 (although the infraction was called by the officials against Ed Reed).

It was the next play that Palmer found Caldwell with the game winning score. The Bengals had a good day vs the Ravens D – Cedric Benson ran for 120 yards, becoming the first player in 40 games to eclipse 100 yards against the Ravens. Palmer was 18 for 31 for 271 yards, and Chad Ochocinco had seven catches for 94 yards.

The Ravens though did have their chances, as Joe Flacco hit Ray Rice with a screen pass for a 48-yard touchdown with 6:59 left that gave the Ravens a 14-10 lead. Flacco and the Ravens were held in check though, as they put up just 257 yards and 12 first downs on offense.

Flacco was 22-for-31 for 186 yards with a score and two interceptions. A 52-yard interception return for a touchdown by Reed gave the Ravens a 7-0 lead in the second quarter. Late in the half, Reed knocked the ball loose from Ochocinco, and Baltimore recovered at its own 16.

The Bengals though were able to do enough, and when they got the ball back with 2:10 left they put the 11-play drive together to put the finishing touches on the huge win. Next week they will take on the Texans at home.
