NFL.com is reporting that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has said that Marion Barber will be in the starting lineup against the Broncos on Sunday. Barber’s return will be more than welcomed, especially after the loss of home run hitter Felix Jones due to a knee injury. If the Cowboys wish to beat the undefeated Broncos they are going to have to rely heavily on the run game, which is a main reason that the Cowboys are 2-1 this season.
As it stands, Barber is currently ranked fourth in the NFL amongst running backs in yards per game, averaging 101.5 yards in each of the two games he has been a part of. Although Barber isn’t known for his ability to break off long runs, surprisingly in two games he has had three runs of twenty yards or more with a long of thirty-five. If he is healthy enough, Barber will be sure to get a large bulk of the carries, however it is likely that he will split carries with second year back Tashard Choice, who has proven to be a dependable back in the limited action he’s seen.
The news of Barber’s return is excellent news for the Cowboys. If Barber can be half as productive as he has been early this season then it will go a long way towards the Cowboys coming away with a victory.
