Fan-Favorite Trotter Returns to Action in Philly

The Philadelphia Eagles made it official today, signing Jeremiah Trotter to a one year deal. To make room on the roster, QB Jeff Garcia has been released.

Trotter has been a fan favorite during his time in Philadelphia, earning four pro-bowls and offering an emotional leadership style to the team. Fans and several players were upset with his release prior to the 2007 season. Trotter was asked to improve his cardio, and lose some weight during the 2007 offseason, and when he was cut, Donovan McNabb made mention that it was wrong for the team to cut Trotter after he had done all that was asked.

Obviously, it was an emotional time for Trotter, and his teammates. He took the podium after the announcement of being cut, tearful and somber, saying that he would always bleed green. Trotter spent the next season with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but saw very little playing time. Since then, he has worked as a radio host for WIP610 AM sports radio out of Philadelphia.

Trotter gets a third chance to don the midnight green. No one knows what capacity he will be used, although most speculate that he will play on run-downs only, coming out of the game for nickel and dime packages. His passion will help replace that which was lost when FS Brian Dawkins was allowed to leave during free agency to sign with the Denver Broncos.

Trotter has worn number 54 during both of his previous stints with Philadelphia. Right now that number belongs to LB Tracy White. We will see if Trotter can talk him into switching.
