Delhomme’s Job Secure – For Now

Jake Delhomme

While Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb cracked a rib Sunday against the Carolina Panthers, one can speculate as to whether Panthers QB Jake Delhomme suffered at least a bruised ego after his abysmal performance (7-for-17, 73 yards, 4 interceptions).

But to be fair here, none of the Carolina QB’s did very well against the Eagles’ relentless pass-rush. Yet one could reasonably speculate as to whether a quarterback controversy is brewing in Charlotte, which is a valid question since all three Panthers QB’s (Delhomme, Josh McCown and Matt Moore) combined to go 14-for-34 for 138 yards and 5 INT’s.

Folks, this is only week 1 here. I will even go so far as to say that while it is true that Delhomme did indeed stink up Bank of America Stadium on Sunday, this is not a typical Jake Delhomme performance, despite his most recent effort mirroring what he did in Cazrolina’s playoff game last season.

It certainly is not fair to Delhomme, the other two quarterbacks or head coach John Fox to start brewing a controversy going into Week 2 as it is counterproductive for everyone involved. Now should this be a recurring theme, then a controversy may be warranted; however, for right now, it is entirely too early to get panicky and go juggling QB’s or looking for a free agent.

  1. The Guru says:

It’s not too early to panic, it’s too LATE. Panic has surrounded this team since the playoff meltdown, and Peppers crippling the team with his contract. To blame? Panthers Management and John Fox for his rigid lack of imagination. It’s amazing.
