Bills LB Kawika Mitchell is Cool

I go to school at St. John Fisher College in Rocehster, NY where the Buffalo Bills hold their training camp. I also just finished up taking a summer class which I had to go to two days a week because of this I had more access to St. John Fisher College.

And this also provided me a very unique opportunity to encounter various Bills players during the first part of this summer. I saw at some point probably every player on Buffalo Bills roster at one point or another on school grounds outside of the training camp practices (which I also attended a few of those). I’m not necessarily a Bills fan, but my wife is and we have two kids so, one of which is hold enough to enjoy watching other people play football. He doesn’t understand that these people playing football are famous, he just likes football (he’s going to be three in a few months).

Even though I saw in close proximity all of these players, I didn’t feel right being an autograph seeker when they were in an element outside of their own training camp practices. Where I saw these players I don’t think they would want to be bothered with a guy hassling them for autographs, which I think made my wife made because I did have an opportunity to try and bother Trent Edwards, Marshawn Lynch, and Terrell Owens for an autograph.

But the ONE player that I did get an autograph from was Kawkia Mitchell.

And this was when I was walking back to my car I was passing through a building and I had both my kids with me, one of which was in a stroller and I was having trouble getting a door open and someone held it open for me and helped get the stroller through the door and when I looked back it was Kawkia Mitchell former Giants OLB who made some very big plays in the Superbowl run season.

He stopped and talked to me for a few brief minutes when I told him I was a Giants fan and didn’t seem to mind that I asked him for an autograph and he was just a very cool down to Earth guy and it was a neat experience because it was a natural unforced experience. And was even cool when I bantered him about coming back to the Giants. And it’s just something I’ll remember for awhile especially since it is both my Sons and my own first N.F.L. autograph. I have a few other autographs for baseball of pretty good players (including Hank Aaron), but those have all been bought as gifts.

It was just a reminder that even to something I already knew that even though these players go out and pound on each other on the football field, and are overwhelmed with work schedules that we never take into account during the season a lot of these guys are probably just cool down to Earth guys that are just better physical specimens than the rest of us.

Anyway, just thought I’d share this mostly related Giants post becuase I was just thinking about this because I go to the school where the Bills practice, but I wonder what it would be like if I were to go to the University of Albany who I might have had a chance to meet. And because it’s a football opinionated post that makes no other mention of a certain QB who now resides in Philly.

I was just wondering if other people had any similar stories because is the first time I’ve ever “met” famous people.
