The rumor going around yesterday was that the Raiders and Saints were two teams that had great interest in former Bucs linebacker Derrick Brooks. Word was that Brooks was in town to work out for the Saints, and that’s when steam picked up about the Raiders possible interest.
Today though, it appears that Brooks is still a man without a team, as Pro Football Talk.com reports that Brooks left New Orleans without a deal:
Derrick Brooks may still wind up joining the Saints, but it’s not going to happen today.
In a somewhat surprising development, Brooks left New Orleans after visiting the team without signing a contract. The Saints also worked out veteran free agent Derek Smith, but said no signings will be announced Wednesday.
The Saints aren’t the only team potentially interested in Brooks. The Raiders reportedly have spoken to him lately, but their level of interest is unclear.
It’s interesting to now what it may have been that kept Brooks from not having a deal, did he want too much money, or was it something that Brooks didn’t show the team enough for them to give a contact to him. Only time will tell.
