The Jets have made an early decision to go with a vet over youth, and that is putting QB Kellen Clemens in the starting lineup in the teams first preseason game Friday night vs the Rams over heralded rookie Mark Sanchez:
Jets head coach Rex Ryan announced that quarterback Kellen Clemens would start on Friday night in the preseason opener against the Rams at the Meadowlands. Clemens and Sanchez are now alternating first team reps with Sanchez getting the first set of reps Saturday. Clemens didn’t seem upset with the decision to alternate first-team reps. “Coach said it was going to be an open competition,” he said. “Today was the first day for Mark (to go with the first team). I’ve been in several of these competitions with the Jets and that’s the way its been in every competition.”
Could it be a sign of things to come for the Jets as the season gets closer? Or is just a bump in the road for Sanchez until he eventually becomes the teams starter? The real debate will be waged after the two get playing time Friday night.
