With the Redskins first preseason game less then three weeks away there are certain players fighting for improvements to their current position on the teams 53 man roster. The following is a list of a few players to keep an eye on.
COLT BRENNAN: The second year quarterback from the University of Hawaii will see some serious playing time in the month of August. Last year Brennan’s outstanding performances against the Jets and Colts set the foundation for his ever growing fan base.
If on the football field Colt shines and flashes like the beacons above an emergency vehicle en route to save a life there will be quite a few outcries for #5 to be placed second on the depth chart behind Jason Campbell. A strong preseason will also drive the die hard Colt fans to demand the starting position be given entirely to Brennan. Redskin’s fans won’t be looking for a repeat performance of last preseason by Brennan, but a monumental improvement upon it.
MARCUS MASON: Last preseason’s rushing king returns to the Redskins after a short lived stint with the NY Jets to try to earn a roster spot as Clinton Portis’ back up and possible successor. What separates M-squared from other running backs is his effort whilst.
When watching his highlights from last year I took notice to his ability to bounce off of or elude the first potential tackler. And if that kind of cat-like agility doesn’t impress you, Mason’s speed comes equipped with an extra gear when in the open field. He is an excellent change-of-pace back to CP’s power running. It’s going to be really hard to let this guy go if he wins the rushing title again this preseason.
BYRON WESTBROOK/ JUSTIN TRYON– It was a toss up between these two young defensive backs. While Byron is a sibling to the arch nemesis Brian Westbrook, the other is a seond year man that was drafted in the 4th round of the 2008 draft. The ‘Skins defensive backfield is already set but these preseason games will be a major indicator of whether or not Redskins fans will see either one of these players on the field in the future.
