Last season former first-round pick Dwayne Bowe showed that he is a player that will be a force when it comes to AFC pass catchers for a long time to come. Bowe will have a new QB this season that will hopefully mean more touchdowns and more plays for fantasy players that take him. Below is a look back and a look ahead at what Bowe brings to the table:
2008 Season: Bowe had two 100+ yard receiving games last year, but overall had a solid season, going for 86 catches for 1022 yards and seven touchdowns. His two 100+ yard games came in weeks 7 vs the Jets and the final week of the season vs the Bengals. He had a two touchdown game in week 11 vs the Saints, but that day he only had 53 yards on seven catches. His worst day came in week 13 vs Oakland when he had just two catches for 27 yards.
Looking Ahead to the 09 Season: The Chiefs have a new coach that likes to throw (Todd Haley) and a new QB that is expected to be given the shot to throw a lot (Matt Cassel). This should help out Bowe, as he enters the season as the number one receiver on the team. The team does have a much tougher slate in 09 with games vs the Ravens in Baltimore in week one, the Steelers at home in week 11, and they also play the NFC East (Washington, Dallas, New York Giants, Philadelphia). What this could mean though is the team will be playing behind, and that could ive Bowe more chances.
Expected Numbers: Look for Bowe to come off his 86 catch, 1022-yard season with 7 TD’s with a similar season – 80 catches, 1075 yards and six TD’s.
