We knew his injury might keep him out of the season opener. Now, he’ll definitely be out. But not because of his injury. He has been suspended for the season opener, for violating the league’s Personal Conduct Policy, according to the Daily News. There is no word as to what the violation was, but sources told the Daily News that it was due to Boley’s arrest for domestic battery for allegedly beating his wife in May of 2008.
Boley’s suspension officially begins on September 5th. Until then, he’s free to practice with the team and participate in preseason games, but his injury will most likely keep him out. He can return September 14th, the day after the Giants season opener.
My take: This is a big blow. Sure, we weren’t expecting him until before the season opener, and even that was in jeopardy. He’s losing valuable practice time and time spent learning a new defense. His first year impact might be minimal. The ‘revolving door’ at weakside linebacker will continue for at least one more week.
