The Browns are getting set for their final vacations of the summer, as OTA’s wrap up for the club. The next time we see them, it’ll be for real, as it will be training camp on August 1st. For now, the story is what players are going to start, and what players are going to sit.
“This isn’t a time when any questions get answered,” Eric Mangini said. “This is more of a time for gathering information. Until we get to a point where we cut down, it’s going to be a constant evaluation. This is just another step in the process.”
The biggest position of course that needs to be answered is the QB spot. The battle remains between Derek Anderson and Brady Quinn, and while you can have all the opinions you want on who is going to win it, for now Mangini is not tipping his hand on who has the upper hand.
He said Saturday that both will enter training camp with a chance to be the starter. For now Anderson does not seem to take issue with that. “Done that before,” Anderson said. “Not really anything new to me. Come back in July and get to work and see where it takes us.”
There are plenty of other positions up for grabs, on both sides of the ball for a team looking to build quickly to be more like the 10-win team of two seasons ago more than the four-win team last year. Making that QB decision quickly will go a long way in trying to get back to winning ways.
