Put Up or Shut Up Time for Rams QB Marc Bulger

Sometimes you have to stop and take a look around. You need to glimpse inside and you need to peer out upon what you’ve achieved. Are you satisfied with the view? I think this is a pivotal year for Mark Bulger.

Two-time Pro Bowler, consistently passing for more than 2,000 yards per season, and achieving a 60+% pass completion ratio over his career. But outside of Hawaii, where has this taken him? Three post season appearances occurring in 2004 and 2005 (of course two were loses and one was utterly forgettable), an overall losing NFL record, and three embarrassing regular seasons.

Reasons why now is the time: 1) the Rams have taken significant action to rebuild their offensive line, 2) Bulger is still in his physical prime, and 3) the Rams have a backup quarterback roster in Berlin, Boller, and Null that screams “THERE IS NO ONE ELSE”.

But probably the most important reason is that the latter two will not last. One more losing season and a starting prospect will be brought in. If the following season is unsuccessful, then Bulger is either traded or relegated to the bench. Finally, a year later spells retirement and a permanent trip back home to Pittsburgh.

Bulger has shown glimpses of greatness. Clearly, now is the time to lead the Rams to victory.
