For Bears Fans – How’s Jumping Out of a Pool for Making a Splash?

Jerry Angelo has said that they will always look at defensive lineman. So to prove his point they went out and drafted one with their first pick (68th).

The Bears selected Jarron Gilbert 6′-5″ 288 lbs from San Jose St. He was listed as a DT but Angelo has already said that with his versatility, he could also play DE for the Bears.

Gilbert was the 2008 WAC Co-Defensive Player of the Year. Putting together an impressive season that included 22 tackles for a loss. He has all the physical abilities to be a great player. I think a lot of his negatives stem from technique. He was listed as a boom or bust pick in the draft. If this is the case than Marinelli should be able to help him see his full potential.

If they put him at DE he seems more of a Alex Brown type of player, so to me they still need a pass rusher at DE. Putting him at DT means that you are worried if Harris will return to form from knee injuries, and you still need a pass rush DE.

I do like the pick and think he will help the team. For anyone that missed the video of him jumping out the pool check check out the link above.
