Hey Redskins Fans. I have a quick question for you. Who was the staring quarterback for Washington the last time they won a playoff game? It wasn’t Jason Campbell. It was the incumbent quarterback when JC was drafted in 2005, Mark Brunell.
Now do you remember fan’s reactions when Brunell wasn’t closing out games, getting sacked and squandering potential comebacks? People were calling for his job to be handed to then rookie Jason Campbell. Half way through the 2006 season Brunell was demoted to bench duty and the reigns were given to second year player Jason Campbell.
Here is a little reminder for those who forgot. Mark Brunell marched the team to a road playoff victory in Tampa Bay. Mark Brunell shot Santana Moss into the elite-receiver conversations.
I’m a bit surprised to see some fans up-in-arms over Jason Campbell’s job possibly being up for grabs, when Brunell’s starting roll was snatched from him 9 games into the ‘06 season. Let us not fail to remember that the team’s main offensive weapon in 2006, Clinton Portis, played a mere 8 games before being placed on injured reserve.
JC is surrounded by play-making teammates. Cooley, Moss, and Portis need a QB that can deliver the ball to them accurately and methodically several times throughout the course of a game, whether it’s the opening drive or 2 minute drill. Brunell lead us to the gates of the NFC championship game. So we turned our backs on him. Jason is still unproven, yet the fans rally behind him.
