In the leagues worst kept secret, it’s becoming more and more obvious that Browns WR Braylon Edwards will be wearing the blue of the Giants come the 2009 season. It’s been bantered about for weeks that Edwards was on his way out, and the Browns even stated they had at one point talked to New York about the former first-round pick.
Now Jason Cole of Yahoo Sports! has come out with a story stating that Edwards should be shipped to New York even before Draft day on April 25th. “The Giants are going to have to up the offer a bit, but [the Browns] are willing to move him,” said one of two sources with knowledge of the talks between the teams in Cole’s column appearing today.
The report that came out awhile ago said that the Browns were looking for a 2nd, a 5th, and wide out Steve Smith for Edwards. The Giants said “no” to that deal. The G-Men came back with offering Domenik Hixon, but then the Browns said nada to that.
Now though it looks like sides are going to make the deal happen. The Giants need a wide out, the Browns with new coach Eric Mangini want Edwards gone, and you can assume that somewhere, somehow they are going to find a way to make it happen.
“The Giants are motivated, they’re trying to win right now,” the source said in the story. “Edwards is a bigger guy that [quarterback] Eli [Manning] wants to throw to, like he had with Plaxico. The Giants know they can’t leave Eli with no great receivers. They saw what happened last year.”
