Hey Plax – Good Riddance and Thanks for the Memories

So it’s finally over, as you know by now, the Giants said goodbye to Plaxico Burress today, and to be honest I am glad they rid themselves of the headache. Now, before you bombard me with comments, I will always have a special place for Plax in my heart.

Being a Spartan and Giants fan it was awesome to see him play like he did during the championship run and he deserves credit for playing hurt. But when the team offered Burress the chance to earn all of the money from his contract and all he had to do was end his fight for the money he forfeited over the last four weeks of last season and he refused that said a lot to me.

After all he has put the Giants through they were still willing to stand by him as they have done with Kerry Collins, Christian Peter and other players in the past.

The Giants signed the troubled receiver in March of 2005 and according to reports his tenure was full of fines, arguments and missed offseason workouts. After the Steelers let Plaxico walk out the door all they did was go and win the Super Bowl. Hopefully the Giants will be the 2010 version of the Steelers.

The Giants won all three of their Super Bowls with great defense and two of them with a ball control offense. I would love for the Giants to continue those winning ways of lining up and stuffing the ball down the opponents throat. Just keep pounding the ball, use Smith for the slot, Hixon and Manningham for deep threats and sprinkle in some Boss all around.

The Giants have a solid quarterback, running backs and offensive line. A stellar defense and some young wide receivers that need to step it up this season.

In Reese’s short tenure as GM he has had great success in the draft. If he can put together another solid draft class, fill in a few holes and add a little depth I have no doubt the Giants are right back in the hunt for the title next year. Maybe they take a shot at a veteran wide receiver like Boldin or Edwards but like its been said many times before defense wins championships and I REALLY LIKE THE GIANTS DEFENSE.

Like I said in the past I believe that the Giants will make a run at someone. With 10 draft picks and some extra bodies on the defensive line it seems like enough ammunition to do something. Braylon Edwards would be a great addition but with Donte Stallworths’ run in with the law and the trading of Kellen Winslow I just find it hard to believe the Browns will cut ties with Edwards unless they get something pretty valuable in return.

Jerry Reese has his work cut out for him but at least he doesn’t have Plaxico Burress weighing on his mind anymore.
