Patriots and Bills to Square Off in MNF Opener

The League has confirmed that the Buffalo Bills will face off against the New England Patriots to open the 2009 season on Monday Night Football.

Kickoff is expected to be at 7pm on September 14th.

Later that night the Raiders will kickoff the 2009 season at home against the Chargers as the second part of the annual Monday Night Football doubleheader. The doubleheader will be part of the NFL’s celebration of the 50th anniversary season of the AFL. All four teams in the opening weekend games originally began playing in the inaugural 1960 American Football League season.

This will also mark Monday Night Football’s 40th Anniversary.

The game will see Tom Brady’s return to the Patriot lineup after a season ending knee injury in 2008 and Terrel Owens’ debut with the Bills. No word yet on the inevitable suspension of Bills running back Marshawn Lynch who is expected to miss the season opener.
