With nicknames like these and a history of not getting along with teammates who could have possibly guessed Terrell Owens would sign a one year deal with “North America’s Team”? But could this be the perfect fit for the controversial wideout?
Owens may be able to effectively increase his value by producing on the field and keeping controversy in the locker room to a minimum. 2010 may see salaries for NFL teams uncapped. This could mean a big pay day for Owens. Also, his on the field legacy would certainly be improved by seemingly giving the Bills, who haven’t made the playoffs in 9 years, the extra nudge it needs to finally make the playoffs.
The Bills will find relief for Lee Evans who was the constant victim of double coverage last year and seemed to dissappear at times. This will also open up the running game for Marshawn Lynch and Fred Jackson who will find opposing defenses more reluctant to stack the box. The offense’s production will almost inevitably improve.
The Bills also will benefit from the circus that constantly surrounds Owens. Love or hate Owens he will bring relevancy and media coverage to a team that hasn’t made news in over a decade. His signing may also have a positive effect on the fans who are unsatisfied by the return of coach Dick Jauron who has yet to manufacture a winning season with Buffalo.
This may be Owens oppurunity to quiet his critics and the Buffalo’s chance to finally make a realistic playoff run.
Get your popcorn ready. For better or worse, it’s gonna’ be a show.
