The way this free agency season is coming along I wouldn’t be surprised if LaDainian Tomlinson ended up as a Washington Redskin. Current backup and fumble prone Ladell Betts just isn’t getting the job done. Week 3; 2007 season. Two chances for Betts from the 2 yard line resulted in a turnover on downs and loss. Week 9 Monday Night; 2008 season.
Playing through an array of injuries Clinton Portis couldn’t find a way to get the running game jump started. The result: 60 total rushing yards. At the running back position the Redskins have substance, but no depth. Maybe a big bruiser like Brandon Jacobs of the rival Giants would be a steady compliment to CP. Perhaps a nimble footed slasher like Darren Sproles is what the ‘Skins need to take heat off of the pass game.
All I know is that SOMEBODY needs to be able to come into a game and pick up where CP left off. The one-two strike at the RB position is imperative in the NFL these days. More important then having a fresh pair of legs to jump in the 3rd quarter of a game to wear down a defense is having a fresh pair of legs to jump into the deep end of a season for the crucial playoff push. A post fifth round pick on a running back would be a wise move for the ‘Skins this year at the draft.
