There are many rumors floating about when it comes to Chargers running back LaDainian Tomlinson, but the latest may be the most damaging when it comes to him staying with the team for 2009 and/or beyond.
Kevin Acee of the San Diego Union-Tribune reports that the Chargers have made their final offer to Tomlinson, and that the decision is now in his hands as to whether he’ll stay. Acee says that the length of the revised contract is not clear, but it’s certain that the Chargers will be paying him less than the $24 million he’s due to be paid over the next three years.
It’s been a tough offseason already for Tomlinson, who has been trading barbs with GM A.J. Smith. Then he had to stand by and watch as RB Darren Sproles got franchised, meaning he’ll be sticking around for 09 and beyond.
It just seems apparent that Tomlinson will be playing elsewhere in 09. Where that will be remains to be seen, but it won’t be in San Diego.
