Cowboys to Start Talking About a New Deal with DeMarcus Ware

Now with Roy Williams and Terrell Owens gone, the Cowboys are in a good spot to work out a contract that will keep LB DeMarcus Ware in Dallas. With the mega deal to DT Albert Haynesworth in Washington, the Cowboys will have a starting point with Ware.

Ware will turn 27 in July, and has become one of, if not the best pass rusher in the NFL. He’s not due to become a free agent until 2010, but getting a deal done ASAP is for sure in the best interest of the Cowboys.

“I know his job just got a lot tougher with [DE Chris] Canty gone [to the rival Giants in free agency],” a scout told Pro Football Weekly. “He opened things up for [Ware] by taking on a tackle or guard and really giving him a lane. I am not sure what Dallas is going to do there, but they need someone who does the same thing [as Canty did]: occupy blockers, stop the run, take all the beating so that Ware doesn’t have to.”
