In a less than a 24 hour period the Dallas Cowboys have released another high profile player. This time it was Saftey Roy Williams and his $25 million dollar contract, and included an $11 million dollar signing bonus.
I guess in Dallas you should be careful what you wish for. It was just two days ago that Williams publicly asked for his release from the team. Today his wish came true. The seven year veteran of the league was a leader not only in the secondary but also on the entire defense.
Williams, who is only 28, will more than likely be a hot commodity on the free agent market. He was a first round pick in the 2002 draft out of the University of Oklahoma.
He was named to five Pro Bowl teams and one All-Pro squad. During his career with the Cowboys, Williams collected 611 tackles, 6½ sacks, 19 interceptions and 56 passes defensed. His release saves the Cowboys about $1 million in salary-cap room.
