The Redskins are a team that has every intention of winning. Now. Friday they spent a whopping amount of money on two players they feel will bring them closer to the ranks of topping the Giants and others to bring back a Super Bowl title to the Nations Capital.
The biggest move, and one that is not a surprise whatsoever, is that the team has landed the leagues most high-profile free agent –
Albert Haynesworth. The now former Titan hit the free-agent jackpot Friday morning by reaching agreement on a seven-year, $100 million deal that could end up maxing out at $115 million based on his performance, according to sources.
The deal was reached early Friday morning, and it was rumored for the past week or so that Haynesworth would end up in DC. The deal includes $41 million in guarantees. During the first 13 months of the contract, Haynesworth will earn approximately $32 million.
That wasn’t all for the Skins, who also are bringing back cornerback DeAngelo Hall. He signed a six-year, $54 million contract with the team early on Friday, and he was the first signing of the free agency period.
The deal Friday includes $22.5 million in guaranteed money, giving the 25-year-old cornerback his second big payday in as many years. Hall was guaranteed around $24 million in a seven-year, $70 million contract he signed a year ago with Oakland, but he struggled to adjust to the Raiders’ man-to-man defense and was waived after eight games.
The Skins will have a 5 p.m. ET news conference at Redskins Park to introduce their newest players.
