The biggest free agent of all the offseason may be Titans defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth, but if the Titans have anything to say about it, he won’t be going anywhere. Word from the Nashville City Paper is that Titans GM Mike Reinfeldt and Haynesworth’s agent spoke last Thursday, and some paramaters of a new deal are starting to be talked about.
Before the Titans do get overanxious about a deal though, the paper did say that the talks have yet to meet any sort of “major negotiations.” The Titans have also yet to make any sort of actual contract offer to Haynesworth’s agent for his client.
Last season Haynesworth played under the $7.25 mil franchise tag, and reached enough incentives built into his tender. If the Titans don’t get their big man signed, he will be free to go where he pleases when the free agency market opens on February 27th.
Haynesworth recorded a career-high 8.5 sacks this season and over the past two years has established himself as one of the NFL’s top defensive tackles, earning two Pro Bowl selections and being named All-Pro twice as well.
