Buccaneers Bounce Lions After Slow Start 38-20

The Detroit Lions established themselves early in the first quarter, building a 17-0 lead on the Buccaneers. This came to an abrupt end as the Lions allowed Tampa Bay to go on a 38-3 run, resulting in Detroit’s 11th consecutive loss of the season.

Trailing 17-0 in the 2nd quarter, Tampa Bay gave the ball to Warrick Dunn who ran a 13 yard touchdown. Shortly after that score, Jeff Garcia found Ike Hilliard for a 36 yard touchdown pass. Later on in the 2nd, Garcia hit the mark with Jeremy Stevens good for a 24 yard touchdown. The Buccaneers continued their stride and coasted to an easy 38-20 victory.

Jeff Garcia finished the game 13/18, 165 yards, and 2 touchdowns. Warrick Dunn made the start at running back for the Bucs’ and impressed carrying the ball 14 times for 90 yards and a score. Cadillac Williams rushed for 27 yards on 16 carries in his first game since a knee injury that almost ended his career over a year ago.

Daunte Culpepper started once again for the Lions and failed to jump start this offense once again. Culpepper completed eight of 20 passes for 121 yards, just one touchdown, and two interceptions. The uninspired quarterback was benched in the third quarter, but had to go back in the game because backup quarterback Drew Stanton was sidelined with a concussion.

Detroit’s Kevin Smith had 86 yards on the ground and Calvin Johnson had 66 yards and a TD off 3 receptions, but was too little for the ensuing Buccaneers drive.

The Buccaneers extended their win streak to 3 straight games and continue their momentum toward the playoffs. Their record improves to 8-3.

Detroit falls flat once again inching even closer to history to become the first team to finish 0-16.
The Bucs’ will look to put some space between their division foes next week, hosting the rival New Orleans Saints.

Unfortunately for the Lions, relief is nowhere in sight. They will have to play on short rest this Thursday (Thanksgiving) against the Tennessee Titans, who will be looking to bounce back after a home loss to the Jets.
