Cross your fingers Vikings fans, your defense is going to need a miracle to get out of this one. Three main players on the Vikings are facing big time suspensions – Jared Allen, Pat Williams and Kevin Williams, over issues with testing positive for a diuretic and a hit in a game last week vs the Packers.
The pair of Williams will talk to league officials today about testing positive for a weight-loss diuretic that is on the list of substances banned by the league. As for Allen, he’ll talk to them about a hit on Aaron Rodgers during the Vikings home win a week ago Sunday that could have him suspended as well.
Coach Brad Childress did talk about the situation as much as he could Monday – “I understand the question and I wish I could give you some insight, but those things are going to be between the league and who the league deals with,” he said. “So it’s difficult for me to comment on that.”
Allen was vocal like a lot of other players about the hard hit on Rodgers, and this comes after he was fined $50,000 for a pair of hits on the Texans Matt Schaub three weeks ago. “We play a violent sport. We know that and we willingly sign up for it,” Allen said earlier this season when talking about the fines being issued by the league. “We don’t ever purposely go out to hurt anybody, ever.
“I know for myself, I have the utmost respect for everybody who plays this sport. But at the same time, it’s like you can’t make rules to tame it down. This is what we do. We’re grown men. We make the decision to do what we do.”
