Former Raiders coach Lane Kiffin filed a grievance today with the NFL trying to recoup money that he feels is owed to him by the Raiders after he was fired. Owner Al Davis canned Kiffin due to what he described as acts of insubordination and lying.
Kiffin is owed about $2.6 million by the team from the three-year deal he signed back in January of 07 when he took on the role of coach. Davis has said from day one that he was not going to pay Kiffin, and now it looks as if the grievance will go in front of NFL Commish Roger Goodell.
The Raiders claim that Kiffin’s grievance did not address provisions in his contract that required him to avoid any conduct that would “would embarrass, discredit or disgrace” the Raiders, as well as an NFL resolution passed in April that required coaches to “avoid actions that undermine or damage the club’s reputation or operating success.”
