Ravens Rough Up Raiders in Baltimore 29-10

Ravens with a score
All the good feelings of the Raiders overtime win over the Jets were quickly washed away Sunday as the team was beaten up by the Ravens 29-10 in Baltimore. The Raiders were held to just 10 first downs, 234 yards, and just 47 yards on the ground on 19 carries (2.5 yards per carry). QB JaMarcus Russell took a step backwards in his development, as he was pressured all day, and went just 15-for-33 for 228 yards and was sacked four times, including once for a safety.

The running game was stuffed all day, as Justin Fargas was the teams leading rusher, and he managed just 24 yards on 12 carries. Russell had 13 yards on one carry, and that was about it on the ground all day for Oakland. The Ravens were able to have a big day running, as they had 192 yards on 46 carries, a 4.2 yards per carry average.

Rookie Ray Rice led the way with 64 yards on 8 carries, and Willis McGahee was the Ravens workhorse, with 58 yards on 23 carries. Rookie QB Joe Flacco was 12-for-24 for 140 yards with one TD. Backup Troy Smith threw one pass, and it was complete for 43 yards.

After the Ravens went up 2-0 after a safety in the first quarter, they ran away with the game with 17 second quarter points. McGahee went over from a yard out to make it 9-0, then Flacco found Demetrius Williams for a 70-yard score to put Baltimore up 16-0 at the 7:26 mark of the second quarter. Matt Stover made it 19-0 with a 38-yard field goal with ten seconds left in the half.

Not much went right for the Raiders in the second half either. Sebastian Janikowski kicked a field goal to make it 19-3 with 10:13 left in the third, but then the Ravens D continued to do the job of holding the Raiders in check for the rest of the quarter. Stover kicked his second field goal to make it 22-3, and then Russell had his only score of the game when he hit Justin Griffith for a two-yard score to make it 22-10.

The Ravens closed out the scoring as Flacco took off and ran in from 12 yards out to make it 29-10. Baltimore controlled the ball, holding it for 36:20 to just 23:40 for the Raiders. They also outgained the Raiders 375 to 234. Russell was sacked four times for minus 41 yards.

Baltmore is back to over .500 at 4-3 on the season. The Raiders are now 2-5. Next week the Ravens travel to Cleveland to take on the Browns. The Raiders host the Atlanta Falcons.
