Dog Day Afternoon: Browns Top Jaguars 23-17

A big hit for the Browns
The Cleveland Browns were able to hang on for the win defeating the Jacksonville Jaguars 23-17.  An interesting side bar to this game was it did not feature Kellen Winslow who was suspended due to negative comments he made about the team.

In both games he has not played the Browns have gone on for the win. It also has delayed the beginning of the Brady Quinn era in Cleveland for yet another week as Derek Anderson had a good day throwing for 246 yards and one TD. Jamal Lewis had 81 yards rushing for Cleveland, who improve to 3-4 on the season and have won three of their last four.

The Jaguars led in all the major stats including total yards, first downs, third down conversions and time of possession. David Garrard was 25-for-42 for 283 yards with two TD’s. Jacksonville also lead in turnovers which lead to a Brows field goal to put them up 17-7 at the end of the second half.

The Jags continue to have issues stopping teams from scoring in the red zone and that played a big part in their lose today. It did come down to the wire as the Jags has two good shots into the end zone at the end of the game to win it. But the Browns defense came up big each time by knocking the ball down to preserve the win.

Both teams look to get back to the .500 mark next week as the Browns will face rivals Baltimore in Cleveland. Jacksonville should have an easy game as they will face the winless Bengals. Both teams need the wins in order to keep the in the playoff hunt as we approach the half way point of the season.
