The Dolphins have come back down to earth over the last two weeks with a close loss to the Texans on the road, and a rather ugly home loss to the Ravens in which they clearly were not as god as they had been on most previous Sunday’s this past NFL season. So the question now is – have the Dolphins already played their best ball in 08?
Let’s face it, this is a young team with a first year head coach, and even after wins over the Pats and Chargers, one would have to make sure to not get too far ahead while talking about playoffs. Now with two straight losses, it seems like the team is back to the point where maybe with losses they realize they still have quite aways to go before they can think about January football.
They won a couple of games with a nutty “Wildcat” formation that confused teams. Now it seems that formation has run its course, and there will be no more fooling teams with it. Chad Pennington, who played so well early, has had his issues the last few weeks. He threw a bad pick 6 yesterday that cost the team. There are already rumblings about playing Chad Henne at some point, and why not? Everyone knows he’s the eventual QB of the future.
As for the defense, they have also not played well the last two weeks. They stopped the Chargers and pounded the Pats, but have gone backwards in allowing the Texans 29 points and the Ravens 27. So while the team is now 2-4 with 10 games left, there is plenty of ball to play, but let’s not lose sight of the most important thing for the 08 Dolphins – and that is play for the future.
