In a game that was full of early turnovers, the Jacksonville Jaguars defeated the Denver Broncos 24-17.The Jaguars pulled their record even at 3-3 while the Broncos fall to 4-2.When the Broncos return to practice and break down the film on this game they will be very disappointed at the missed opportunities in the first half.
After Jacksonville lost the coin toss quarterback Jay Cutler took the opening drive and led the Broncos down the field on a 10 play 80 yard scoring drive that ended on a eleven yard Jay Cutler to Brandon Stokley touchdown pass.
Shortly after that touchdown the wheels came off for the Broncos in the first half. Linebacker D.J. Williams recovered a Fred Taylor fumble on the Jaguars initial drive and the Broncos gave it right back on the next play when Cutler fumbled the ball to Jaguars cornerback Rashean Mathis on a two yard scramble.
After getting the ball back the Jaguars would capitalize with 48 yard Josh Scobee field goal. Still up 7-3 QB Jay Cutler would commit his second turnover in three drives as he was intercepted trying to find his favorite target Brandon Marshall near the goal line. The interception would go for not as the Jaguars were unable to get any points and had to punt.
On the ensuing drive the Broncos would again march into Jaguars territory only to fumble away their scoring chances as Brandon Marshall fumbled the ball away at the eight yard line. Cornerback Dayton Florence recovered the fumble and returned it to the 25 yard line.
The Jaguars made the Broncos mistake costly, QB David Garrard engineered a 12 play 75 yard drive that chewed up 6 ½ minutes off the clock and ended on a one yard Maurice Jones-Drew TD plunge. The Jaguars would get the ball back one more time and take it into scoring position , but with a minute left in the half David Garrard was stripped by Defensive tackle Kenny Peterson.
The game would go to half with Jacksonville up 10-7. The Jaguars would add to that lead as the as Maurice Jones-Drew scored his second rushing touchdown of the day. Busting up the middle for 46 yards and a touchdown on the third play off the half, giving the Jaguars a comfortable 17-7 lead.
The Broncos answered right back and pulled within a possession at 17-10 after 39 yard field goal, but the Jaguars would extend the lead to their largest of the game at 24-10 after Garrard found tight end Mercedes Lewis for a 30 yard touchdown at the four minute mark of the third quarter.
Both teams would trade punts until the Broncos gained some offensive traction and Jay Cutler found TE Daniel Graham on a 11 yard scoring strike bringing the Broncos back to a seven point defect 24-17. The score would end that way as the Broncos got the ball one last time but when they punted with six minutes left it would prove to be their last shot as the Jaguars ran out the clock on the games final six minutes leaving Mile High with a victory.
