Eagles Fly to 23 Fourth Quarter Points in 40-26 Win in San Fran

Mikell returns a score

Putting up a stunning 23 points in the fourth quarter, including 13 in the final 5:14, the Philadelphia Eagles rebounded from last weeks loss to the Redskins and topped the San Francisco 49’ers 40-26 at Monster Park Sunday in San Fran. The Eagles were trailing 26-17 after Joe Nedney kicked a 29-yard field goal with 3:01 left in the third quarter. From that point on, it was all Eagles.

The start of the comeback came with QB Donovan McNabb leading the team on a five-play, 63-yard drive that ended with McNabb hitting TE L.J. Smith for a 3-yard score that made it 26-24. David Akers then kicked three straight field goals, from 38, 25 and 28 yards to make it 33-26 with 1:14 left. J.T. O’Sullivan had a nightmare 4th quarter, and it concluded with him throwing a pick that was returned for a score by Juqua Parker for 55 yards to close it out at 40-26 with :38 left.

The fourth quarter for the now 2-4 Niners went like this: 3 plays, minus 7 yards – punt. 3 plays, minus 8 yards, interception. 3 plays, 7 yards, fumble by O’Sullivan. 3 plays, 25 yards, pick returned for a score. 2 plays, minus 9 yards, end of the game. O’Sullivan is on the verge of losing his job. He was 16-for-29 for 212 yards, two picks and a lost 4th quarter fumble that gave the Eagles a field goal.

San Fran trailed 17-6 in the second quarter, but they came back with a Nedney 53-yard field goal, a blocked field goal for a score, then a Frank Gore six-yard TD to make it 23-17. Nedney kicked the 29-yard field goal to make it 26-17 with 18 minutes left, which is when the Eagles comeback started and the 49’ers imploded.

McNabb was 23-for-36 for 279 yards with two TD’s and one pick. With no Brian Westbrook, Correll Buckhalter was the workhorse back, rushing for 97 yards on 19 carries with one TD. Buckhalter also had 7 catches for 89 yards. DeSean Jackson had 6 catches for 94 yards.

The 3-3 Eagles are on the bye next week and then play at home vs the 4-2 Falcons on the 26th. The Niners are on the road at the champion Giants next Sunday at 4:15pm Eastern.
