It looks as if the Giants are quickly going to try and work something out with number one WR Plaxico Burress about his suspension that was handed down earlier this week. Adam Schefter of NFL Network is reporting that the team and Burress’ lawyers want to get the issues settled before it goes to an arbitrator.
It would be a good thing for the Giants and for Burress if there is a settlement before it goes to the arbitrator, because if it does that you can bet there is going to be some hard feelings somewhere. Burress cried and whined about wanting a new deal, and he got it, then he basically put himself on a stage for punishment by the team by missing meetings.
It’s amazing that agent Drew Rosenhaus comes out and says that Burress was “shocked” when he heard about the suspension, and that he was dealing with family issues. Interesting that the team claims, and I believe this, that they were not able to get a hold of Burress, which also caused concern.
Talks will continue on Friday, but here’s betting that a deal is struck so feelings can be put aside and the Giants can eventually lay down a slighter punishment against Burress and he’ll be back on the field after the teams October 5th game.
