Giants DE Osi Umenyiora Lost for the Year

Osi Out for the Year

Giants.Com reports Osi Umenyiora is lost for the season due to a torn meniscus in his knee while NFL.Com reports it’s a torn MCL. Regardless of who’s right, the Giants have suffered a really tough set back. With Michael Strahan already gone into retirement, this really hurts the Giants ‘D.’ They’ve lost both starting ‘D’ Ends — one a current All Pro and the other a Hall of Famer.

So, what now? Move Kiwanuka back to DE or leave him at strong side linebacker, where’s he’s been improving steadily? Move insurance policy, Renaldo Wynn, in or go to Dave Tollefson? Do the Giants ask Strahan to come back? A lot of questions to answer with less than two week before the season opener on September 4th against the Redskins — who, by the way have lost Jason Taylor to a knee sprain for about two weeks.

Just goes to show how silly all the preseason projections and predictions are. A key injury here or there and it changes everything. But, for what it’s worth, the most important guy on Defense is still intact, hale and healthy and that’s Steve Spagnuolo. Got a hunch he’ll come up with something because that’s what he does. And, just a suggestion; maybe it’s time for the ‘O’ to step up and pick up the slack on that side of the ball.
