JT O’Sullivan wins the 49ers QB Job… is it the Right choice?

JT O’Sullivan beat out former number 1 overall pick Alex Smith to win the 49ers QB job. But did Mike Nolan and Co. make the right choice? I’m not so sure. Of course, O’Sullivan out played Smith all preseason, and is familiar with the offense. But when you have money invested in Smith, you owe it to the franchise, and the fans to give him a shot.

Smith has played with 4 coordinators in 4 seasons. And Mike Martz, the new offensive coordinator, is known for his work with QB’s. He needs a shot, and some continuity.By constantly changing the offense, he never has the chance to progress. So with Martz, maybe he can succeed. You at least owe him the chance.

Completely disagree! I do not think any of these teams owes any player anything. That mentality is how the Browns kept Couch and Frye around too long, the Jets with Pennington, the Bears with Grossman, and (soon to be added) Young in TEN. The “owe me” mentality keeps teams floundering in mediocrity.

Teams that did not feel they owed a player were NE & Dallas with Bledsoe, STL with Green, CLE with Frye last year (when they stopped “owing” him a spot), WAS with Campbell, JAC with Leftwich. How did all those teams do? Oh, and kudos to the Packers for having a pair.
