Redskins Offense Impressive Again in 17-14 Win Over Bills

Portis scores

For the second straight week, the Redskins offense shined under new coach Jim Zorn, and again on Saturday night at home the team walked away with win, topping the Buffalo Bills 17-14 to move to 2-0.  Starting QB Jason Campbell played the first quarter and went 7-for-10 for 71 yards, leading the Skins on a 12-play drive that ended with RB Clinton Portis going over from one-yard out to make it 7-3 Skins.

Backup QB Todd Collins was also impressive for the Skins, going 8-for-11 for 77 yards, including a 12-yard touchdown pass to running back Ladell Betts that made it 14-3.  The Bills got back in the game with a Rian Lindell short 25-yard field goal to make it 14-6 with 3:02 left in the first half, and then after a Bills pick, J.P. Losman threw a 16-yard TD to James Hardy that combined with two-point coversion made it 14-14 at the half.

The only score in the second half was a Shaun Shuisham 46-yard field goal that made it 17-14.  The two teams traded possessions the rest of the way, as the Bills had two decent chances to score, one ended on a missed field goal and another on a fumble that ended their last good shot to tie the game or possibly take the lead.

Losman was 7-for-9 for 73 yards and a TD.  Starting QB Trent Edwards was just 1-for-5 for 18 yards.  The Skins offense put up a solid 341 yards and held the ball for 33:17.  The Bills, who had issues on offense last season, started the preseason much the same, gaining just 240 yards and having just 26:38 in time of possession.

Next week the Bills will play their first game in Toronto vs the Steelers on Thursday at 7:30pm.  The Redskins will look for 3-0 as they play Brett Favre and the Jets in the Meadowlands on Saturday the 16th at 7:30pm.
