With it being just a few hours ago that he became a free man for the first time in his NFL career, the phone has been ringing for the agent for now former Jets quarterback Chad Pennington. Tim Graham of ESPN.com is reporting that already six teams have contacted Tom Condon, Pennington’s agent, about his clients services.
The teams on the other end of the phone wanting to know about Pennington and what he may want to come to town include: the Chiefs, the Bears, the Vikings, the Falcons, and the Lions. Another team that was reportedly in the mix was the Dolphins, who may be in the mix for an upgrade at the QB spot. Coach Tony Sparano spoke about Pennington today at his press conference.
“We have three quarterbacks right now on our team, and we’re finding it hard right now to get all three of those guys the work they need. I’m happy with the people we have here right now.” In other words, the former Jets QB will probably be in the mix by the time it’s all said and done.
Pennington had three years remaining on his contract and would have been paid $4.8 million this year. His salary-cap figure was $7.8 million.
