There has been a lot of speculation about the future of Buccaneers QB Chris Simms, and what he will do if the team does not grant his wishes and release him. Today’s Tampa Tribune gives a quote from head coach Jon Gruden that seems to indicate that maybe Simms will get what he wants, and it may happen soon.
“We’re going to have to make some tough decisions,” Coach Jon Gruden said. “When the rookies sign, they obviously have to have room on the roster to come to camp, so there are some tough decisions to make. And it’s emotional for me, because maybe you haven’t seen these guys out here in April, May and June, but they’ve been out here working hard. You’d like to afford them an opportunity to benefit from the hard work.”
The Bucs are going to have to trim their roster to 80 by the start of training camp, and while that process has begun with the release of a few players, you have to believe that Simms is going to be somewhere on that list eventually. Among those cut yesterday were DE/LB Patrick Chukwurah and DE Marquis Gunn. You have to think the time for Simms to be out there for any team to pick him up is going to come sooner than later.
