Reports have as many as eight teams already showing interest in now former Browns and Saints center LeCharles Bentley, who asked for and got his release from the Browns on Wednesday. Bentley is trying to make it back after missing two seasons after he tore his knee up on the first day of training camp in 2006.
Trying to figure out the teams that want Bentley is somewhat a crap shoot, but one team that should have interest is the Vikings, who with their running game are always on the lookout for good O-lineman. Friday’s Star-Tribune pointed out that Bentley could be on their radar since Pro Bowl center Matt Birk is entering the last year of his deal and has not been approached about a new contract.
Coach Brad Childress didn’t say much about Bentley when asked, but did have these words: “You always keep a book on all those guys,” he said. “You’re not going to work out a guy like that because he’s a vested veteran, but we always keep a book on all those things, right now, we’ve got a lot of guys who are able to snap the football, which is rare.”
No question to keep your eye on the Vikings when it comes time for Bentley to start talking to teams, but it appears there will be plenty of other teams knocking if the Vikings don’t make him a decent offer.
