In the sometimes slow moving world of the NFL – this one was certainly fast. The Falcons have announced that they have already come to teems with first-round draft pick QB Matt Ryan. When it comes to signing early, this is the second such player to already have a deal, as the Dolphins came to terms with their #1 pick, as Jake Long signed a deal a few days before he was the first overall pick in the entire draft.’
Atlanta was ultra-aggressive in getting a deal with Ryan done, and NFL Network’s Adam Schefter is reporting the deal is a six-year package worth a total of $72 million, with $34.75 million in guaranteed money. Ryan will be the face of the Falcons franchise, as they try to put the nightmare of 2007 behind them. He completed 807 of 1,347 passes for 9,313 yards and 56 touchdowns in his Golden Eagle career. His career completions and attempts set school records while his passing yards and 59.9 completion percentage both rank third in the school’s all-time record book.
Last season it took till July 3rd before any first round pick was signed, and it’s a good sign for the league after all the hoopla earlier in the day that already two picks are under contract. Miami did sign three lower round draft picks on Monday, meaning that five players total from the draft are already under contract.
