With Kevin Jones gone, the Lions are in dire need of an every down stud back, and this weekend they may have taken steps to fill that role as they hosted Tulane back Matt Forte for a visit. The Detroit Free Press is reporting that Forte was in town to talk to the team as the draft gets ever so closer at the end of April. Forte is an impressive back, and one that a number of teams would like to get their hands on.
The Bears are another team with great interest in Forte, and it would be a lift for the Lions to be able to steal from from a division rival that would also like to get him. Forte was solid at the combine, as he ran a 4.46 40-yard dash, which was 7th overall among running backs. He also showed his strength, benching 225 pounds 23 times.
At 6-foot-1, 221 pounds, Forte is being touted by the Bears, Lions, and reportedly by the Texans, another team in need of a running back. Last season at Tulane, Forte was a stud, rushing for 2,127 yards and 23 touchdowns. No question that whoever gets the services of Forte will have a back and could make a big impact in 2008.
