Is “just win baby” in Trent Dilfer’s future? It very well could be possible according to Dilfer. He was in Clovis, California today speaking to a congregation at Northside Christian Church.
Dilfer who was a local hero at Fresno State and a Super Bowl MVP in 2001 was being interviewed before nearly 1,600 churchgoers filled each of two services Sunday. The interviewer was the Rev. David N. Rutherford.
Dilfer who was recently released by the 49’ers spoke of his faith and his 14 years in the NFL. He brought tears to many eyes when spoke of the loss of 5 year old son Trevin in 2003 and how his faith helped him endure that rough part of his life.
“We wait to see him again” in heaven, Dilfer said. “To our family, it’s very real. It’s personal because that’s where our boy is. And he’s waiting for us. That’s how we get through it.”
Then there were the cheers as Dilfer and Rev Rutherford continued their conversation in which Dilfer told the crowd that the Oakland Raiders have shown an interest in signing him. This would be a good choice for the Raiders if they are looking for a mentor for JaMarcus Russell.
This is not unfamiliar territory for Dilfer after he was traded to the Cleveland Browns in 2005 he tutored former starter and current Seahawks QB Charlie Frye.
