While the Jets went out and made a deal for former Bears running back Thomas Jones last year, it looks as if the team may still be on the lookout for a true feature back, and one player that they may be eyeing in this April’s Draft is Arkansas running back Darren McFadden. The Newark Star-Ledger is reporting that the Jets flew out a group of team reps yesterday to meet with McFadden in Fayetteville.
McFadden is a stud back that will make any team better right away in 2008. Last season with the Razorbacks, he rushed for 1,830 yards and 16 touchdowns. The Jets have the sixth pick in the 08 Draft, and even though there is a shot that the back won’t be there when the Jets pick, if he is he would be hard to pass by for the Jets.
The Jets have spent plenty of money in the free agent market to make sure they are back in the playoff hunt in 2008, with beefing up their offensive line as one of the main goals this offseason. Last season with Jones, he was able to go over 1,000 yards (1119) but only had one touchdown and the team struggled in most running situations. McFadden could add that breakaway threat the team has not had in a very long time should he be there for the taking.
