The Chicago Bears continue to keep their eyes open for a running back, and for good reason. There are some rumors floating around that former number one draft choice running back Cedric Benson’s career may actually be in jeopardy. The story comes from Pro Football Weekly, which says that last seasons ankle injury which sidelined Benson for part of the season, may be serious enough to threaten his football life.
The story goes that Benson has been around the Bears training complex at Halas Hall a lot, but has not really been working out, leading to speculation about his injury. The thought is that the verdict on Benson will be out till he does take the field, and can test that ankle for the first time with a practice or at least a run. Benson didn’t exactly have a great season in his first as the Bears feature back last year, as he fumbled three times, rushed for just 3.4 yards per carry on 674 yards, and scored four times.
The Bears will for sure keep on the lookout for a back through either free agency if a player gets released, or possibly in the draft, but they may not do that until the 3rd round or later.
