Former Lions RB Jones Expresses Interest in Playing in Philly

Now a free agent following his release from the Lions, there are already rumors popping up about where running back Kevin Jones is going to continue his career. A reported 12 teams have already expressed interest in Jones, who is still trying to make it all the way back following a torn ACL he suffered in his right knee in December.  It’s that ACL that may cause him to miss the start of the 2008 season, but it appears that even with that some team is going to take a chance on him.

Where would Jones like to go? One team that has his interest are the Philadelphia Eagles, a team that could be considered his hometown team for Jones, growing up in Chester, PA.  “When the Lions drafted me, it came as a big shock, because they weren’t that much in the picture,” Jones says, per the Philadelphia Daily News. “It wasn’t my dream situation. It would be a dream, however, to play for the Eagles. Going back to Philly, with all my relatives and friends back there, that’s home to me. Chester will always be home to me. I have a real support system there in Philadelphia. Playing for the Eagles would be great.”

As far as being on the Eagles, Jones would be the backup to super back Brian Westbrook, but it’s a spot that would not bother Jones, and he says he’d be more than happy to do it.  “Are you kidding me? That would be awesome,” Jones said. “I’d love to play with Brian Westbrook. He’s one of the best backs, if not the best back in the league. I definitely wouldn’t mind doing that. I can learn some things from Brian Westbrook.”  The biggest thing for Jones right now is to simpy get back on the field and prove he can stay healthy.  If he can prove his worth health wise with another team, somewhere down the line he’ll be a starter somewhere in the league.
