Elam, Broncos Still At Impasse

Denver Broncos kicker Jason Elam
Only $1 million separates kicker Jason Elam and the Broncos from the 16-year veteran from re-upping with Denver, according to Mike Klis of the Denver Post; but to hedge his bets, Elam is making a visit to the Atlanta Falcons. And there’s a good chance that a decision will be made as early as this coming week; the Broncos would have a dilemna to face – who would kick for the Broncos should Elam and the team part ways, bearing in mind that other teams have expressed interest in Elam?

The only viable option right now is Matt Prater, but he handled kickoffs, so expect competition for the kickers’ position. What’s out there right now is slim pickins; the only free-agent that may or may not be worth a flyer on is Olindo Mare, so assuming that Elam departs the Broncos, the Broncos may draft a kicker in the latter rounds, such as Wisconsin’s Taylor Melhoff, Louisville’s Art Carmody or St. Xavier’s Shane Longest (interesting name, to say the least).
