The Falcons announced the release of quarterback Joey Harrington on Wednesday. The Falcons now have only two quarterbacks on the roster, having previously released backup Byron Leftwich. The team is expected to select a quarterback in the upcoming April NFL Draft. Harrington was drafted third overall in 2002 by Detroit only to be released and signed by Miami in 2006.
The Falcons signed him last spring after trading Matt Schaub to Houston. In 10 starts with Atlanta, Harrington scored seven touchdowns with eight interceptions and was benched four times. Among notable QBs available in this spring’s draft include Matt Ryan, Michigan’s Chad Henne, Louisville’s Brian Brohm or John David Booty of USC.
